Bears, Bulldogs Return to Action

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ water polo team lost to visiting Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy of La Cañada Flintridge 13-7 in a nonleague game on Dec. 5 as Ana Zubkoff finished with four goals, two steals and one assist.

Derrika Berenguer tallied one goal and two assists, Sarah Metry recorded one goal and one assist, and Olivia Dominguez scored one goal. Molly Gilmore registered seven saves, Ava Tomlin and Siahni Suraez each finished with one steal and one assist, Bella Matossian had one steal, and Bonnie Kretzmann was credited with one assist.

The Bears suffered a 13-5 nonleague loss at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame on Nov. 28.

Metry and Tomlin each tallied two steals, one goal and one assist, while Suraez finished with one goal, one assist and one steal. Diana Gracia produced one goal and one steal, while Audrey Willett scored one goal. Lillian Czekji registered seven saves, while Zubkoff contributed five steals.

Burroughs (2-3 overall) will compete in the Chino Hills Tournament on Dec. 15 and 16 before opening Pacific League action at Arcadia on Dec. 21 at 3:45 p.m.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs opened the regular season by competing in the Troy Tournament on Dec. 1 and 2.

Burbank routed Santee High of Los Angeles, 18-1, in its tournament finale after suffering losses against Troy High of Fullerton, 16-3, Classical Academy of Escondido, 11-4, and Louisville High of Woodland Hills, 14-3. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

The Bulldogs (1-3) will visit Louisville High for a nonleague game on Dec. 14 at 3:45 p.m. before opening Pacific League action at Hoover High in Glendale on Dec. 21.
