Burroughs, Burbank Victorious in League Openers

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ soccer team blanked host Glendale 3-0 in its Pacific League opener on Dec. 5.

Sophomore Samantha Sizemore registered two goals, senior Saida Artikova scored one goal and senior Mackenzie Monahan tallied two assists.

The Bears lost to visiting La Cañada 3-1 in a nonleague match on Dec. 1. Senior Graciela Gomez finished with one goal, while freshman Geneva Kiefer was credited with an assist.

Burroughs (1-2 overall, 1-0 in league) will host Pasadena in a league match on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta on Friday, Dec. 15.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs routed visiting Muir High of Pasadena 4-0 in their Pacific League opener on Dec. 5, as sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Evens-Armendaris tallied three saves to preserve the shutout.

Sophomore Emily Taghon registered two goals, freshmen Sophia Leon and Olivia Baure each scored one goal, and senior Sophie Peek was credited with one assist.

Burbank tied host Chatsworth, 1-1, in a nonleague matchup on Nov. 30. Sophomore Taghon recorded one goal, while Peek was credited with an assist on the play.

The Bulldogs (2-0-1, 1-0) will host Arcadia for a league match on Dec. 12 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Pasadena on Dec. 15.
