Burroughs Rolls Glendale to Start League Campaign

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ basketball team opened Pacific League action with a convincing 58-26 victory over visiting Glendale on Dec. 5 as freshman Claire Hackney racked up 21 points, two steals, two assists and one rebound.

Junior Mariam Fahs registered 12 points, four steals, two rebounds and one assist, while freshman Jessica Mena tallied seven points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal. Senior Ashley Martin contributed 12 rebounds, six points, three assists, two blocks and two steals, while senior Mia Paz chipped in four points, four rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Sophomore Alyssa Pracha recorded three points, three rebounds and one assist, sophomore Gabriella Buendia finished with three points, one steal, one assist and one rebound, and freshman Polina Gorgeiz produced two points and one rebound. Sophomore Elizabeth Amoroso collected four steals, three assists and two rebounds, while sophomore Anna Phillips notched four rebounds, one block and one assist. Sophomore Valentina Morales was credited with three rebounds, while junior Ella Anderson had one rebound.

The undefeated Bears (7-0 overall, 1-0 in league) will visit Pasadena for a league game on Dec 12 at 6:45 p.m. before hosting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta on Dec. 15.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs lost at Eagle Rock High in Los Angeles 44-19 in a nonleague game on Dec. 6. Burbank narrowly lost at Muir High in Pasadena 56-54 in its Pacific League opener on Dec. 5. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

The Bulldogs (1-6, 0-1) will visit Arcadia for a league matchup on Dec. 12 at 6:45 p.m. before hosting Pasadena on Dec. 15.
