Bears Cruise to Win Over Fillmore

The Burroughs High School varsity football team picked up a convincing 41-14 nonleague victory at Fillmore Aug. 25 as senior captain Santiago Sanchez racked up a team-high eight tackles with one interception.

Bears senior captain Ryan Hernandez recorded four tackles, while senior Sonny Arana and junior Patrick Lima each tallied three tackles. Senior Reese Shuton, senior Anthony Rodriguez, junior Peter Lingua and junior Rocco Mellilo each finished with two tackles, while senior Noah Frenkel, senior Jamal Khalifeh, senior Adrian Sanchez, senior Roberto Gutierrez, senior Alex Valenzuela, junior Braden Turner and junior Julian Zubia each had one tackle. Sophomore Matteo Tarca went 5-for-6 in PAT attempts while senior Jake Scozzola recorded one interception. Offensive statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader by the Burroughs coaching staff.

The Bears (2-0 overall) visited St. Genevieve High in Panorama City on Sept. 1; the nonleague game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. JBHS will host a pair of nonleague games starting with a matchup against North Hollywood on Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting Village Christian High of Sun Valley on Sept. 14.
