Boys’ Tennis: Burbank Cruises Past South Pasadena Behind Strong Singles Play

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ tennis team defeated visiting South Pasadena 12-6 in a nonleague match on April 9.

Bulldogs No. 1 singles player Raphael Lazaryev swept with scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2, while No. 2 David Kerimyan (6-2, 6-3) and No. 3 Dominic Aleman (6-4, 7-5) each won a pair of sets. The No. 3 doubles team of Desmond McNeill and James Basco swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-3, while the No. 2 tandem of Vamsi Chintha and Blake Lewis won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-4.

The Bulldogs lost to visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta 11-7 in a Pacific League match on April 8.

No. 1 Lazaryev won two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-3, No. 2 Kerimyan won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 7-6 (7-3), and No. 3 Aleman added a pair of wins with scores of 6-2 and 6-4.

Meanwhile, the No. 1 doubles team of Basco and David Petrosyan added a 6-4 victory.

Burbank (7-4 overall, 6-3 in league) will host Crescenta Valley High for a league match on April 16 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Burroughs on April 18.

BURROUGHS

The Bears swept visiting Glendale 18-0 in a Pacific League match on April 9. Individual statistics were not reported to the Leader.

Burroughs (7-5, 6-3) will visit Burbank for a league match on April 18 at 3:45 p.m. before sending individuals to compete in the Pacific League Tournament on April 22 and 23.
