Softball: Bears Edge Crescenta Valley to Secure Top League Spot

The Burroughs High School varsity softball team picked up a crucial 7-5 Pacific League victory at Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta on April 9. With the win, the Bears sit in first place in the Pacific League standings and remain the only unbeaten team in league play.

Senior Emerson Coblentz pitched a complete game with five strikeouts, sophomore Karlee Earl went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, and senior Alyssa Rosales went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI. Junior Alyssa Morales went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs, while senior Phoebe Spangler went 2-for-4. Senior Gizelle Rangsiyawong recorded a hit, an RBI and a run, while senior Skylar Vanole finished with a hit and a run. Junior Chloe Centeno and freshman Sophie Rangsiyawong each tallied a hit, while senior Eliza Torres scored a run.

Burroughs (17-4 overall, 5-0 in league) will host Burbank for a league game on April 17 at 3:45 p.m. before competing in the Pacific League tournament, which begins on April 20.

Burbank High senior Eliza Bowren went 3-for-5 with a triple and a double to help the Bulldogs beat Glendale in a Pacific League game on April 9.

Sophomore Kayla Orozco, who went 3-for-5 with three triples and two runs at the plate, pitched 5 1/3 innings with a strikeout, while junior Maddison Kellogg, who had a double and two runs at the plate, pitched 2 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.

Junior Samantha Cafferty went 4-for-4 with a pair of triples and three runs, while senior Eliza Bowren went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and a run. Senior Kara Valencia went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and a run, freshman Chloe Updike went 2-for-4 with three runs, and senior Abigail Kimmer went 2-for-3 with two runs. Junior Charley Barnett recorded a double and a run, while senior Breana Tapia scored a run.

Burbank (10-9, 4-1) will visit Burroughs High for a league game on April 17 at 3:45 p.m. before competing in the Pacific League tournament which begins on April 20.
