Boys’ Volleyball: Burroughs Wins Tournament, Carlin Named MVP

The Burroughs High School varsity boys’ volleyball team was swept at Arcadia, 23-25, 17-25, 24-26, in a Pacific League match on April 9.

The Bears won the Chatsworth Tournament after going undefeated with a perfect 9-0 record. Henry Carlin was named the tournament MVP, while Charlie Gerard and Ryder Tafoya were each selected to the all-tournament team.

Burroughs defeated tournament host Chatsworth in three games, 15-25, 25-16, 19-17, in the championship match on April 6. The Bears previously defeated Windward High of Los Angeles, 20-25, 25-17, 16-14, in the semifinal match, and Marshall High of Los Angeles, 22-25, 25-16, 15-6, in the quarterfinal match.

Burroughs posted a three-game victory over Royal High of Simi Valley, 21-25, 25-19, 15-8, in a tournament match on April 6. Burroughs swept Bishop Diego High of Santa Barbara, 25-22, 25-11, and Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences of Granada Hills, 25-17, 25-14, in a pair of tournament matchups earlier on April 6.

The Bears opened the first day of tournament play on April 5 with three consecutive sweeps, defeating Birmingham High of Lake Balboa, 26-24, 25-19, Canoga Park, 25-10, 25-19, and Grant High of Van Nuys, 25-19, 25-19.

Burroughs previously swept visiting Burbank, 25-22, 25-15, 25-23, in a league match on April 4. Individual statistics were not reported to the Leader.

Burroughs (20-6 overall, 5-2 in league) will host Glendale for a league match on April 16 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta for its regular-season finale on April 18.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs secured a four-game victory over visiting Glendale, 25-16, 17-25, 25-22, 25-21, in a Pacific League match on April 9. Burbank was previously swept at Burroughs High, 22-25, 15-25, 23-25, in a league match on April 4. Individual statistics were not reported to the Leader.

Burbank (4-11, 2-6) will visit Pasadena for a league match on April 16 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Arcadia for its regular-season finale on April 18.
