Pedestrian Killed in Metrolink Train Crash

A Lancaster-bound Metrolink train fatally struck a person on Tuesday in the Burbank-Glendale area.

A representative from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office told the Leader on Thursday it was not yet releasing the identity of the deceased, pending the victim’s next of kin being notified.

The AV Line Train 209 hit the pedestrian, who died at the scene, at about 10 a.m. near San Fernando Road and Brazil Street, between the Glendale and Burbank-Downtown stations, according to Metrolink.

About 125 passengers were aboard the train at the time, and no injuries were reported. Rail service was interrupted, and Metrolink provided Uber vouchers of up to $50 to affected passengers.

A similar episode occurred in February 2022 in the 1100 block of North Victory Place. In that case, police investigators and the coroner determined the incident a suicide, saying the man had intentionally positioned himself across the train tracks as the train was approaching. The train, which was traveling southbound, was unable to stop and struck him, according to police. Neither the conductor nor the passengers sustained any injuries in that incident.
