Bears One Step Closer to Outright League Crown

The Burroughs High School varsity football team earned its fourth consecutive victory after a 28-7 victory over visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta in a Pacific League game on Oct. 20.

Senior quarterback Chris Kulikov completed 14 passes for 232 yards with four touchdowns and also rushed for 44 yards on six carries. Senior co-captain Jake Scozzola recorded eight catches for a team-high 122 yards and three touchdowns. Senior co-captain Ethan Hubbell had three receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Senior co-captain Santiago Sanchez rushed for a team-best 101 yards on 16 carries Senior Noah Frenkel had eight carries for 25 yards, while senior co-captain Ryan Hernandez had two receptions for 22 yards. Junior Rocco Mellilo made a 17-yard catch and went 4-for-4 in PAT attempts.

The league’s undefeated and first-place Bears (8-1 overall, 4-0 in league) took on rival Burbank in the “Big Game” for their regular season finale on Oct. 27; the game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.

The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Oct. 29 at 10 a.m.
