Singles Sweep Lifts Burbank Over Glendale

The Burbank High School varsity girls’ tennis team lost to visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta 15-3 in a Pacific League match on Oct. 17.

No. 1 Mira Hammel and No. 2 Daphne Harbaugh each posted a 6-4 win, while the No. 1 doubles team of Brianna Kobramasihi and Chihiro Kato added a 6-2 victory.

The Bulldogs picked up a 14-4 league victory at Glendale on Oct. 12.

No. 1 Sena Hammel swept her matches with scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0. No. 2 Mira Hammel also swept her side with three 6-0 scores, while No. 3 Harbaugh also swept her opponents with a trio of 6-1 victories.

The No. 1 doubles team of Kato and Kobramasihi won two sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-1, while the No. 2 tandem of Molly Foenander and Jessica Han also won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-3. The No. 3 duo of Yeva Sarkisian and Gulim Seitimbetova added a 6-4 win.

Burbank will send individuals to compete in the Pacific League Tournament at Burroughs High in Burbank on Monday, Oct. 23, and Wednesday, Oct. 25, before the CIF Southern Section team playoff brackets are released on Oct. 30 at 11 a.m.

BURROUGHS

The Bears lost at Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta 17-1 in a Pacific League match on Oct. 12 as No. 1 singles player Hannah Lewis recorded a 6-3 victory.

Singles and doubles players are set to represent Burroughs in the Pacific League Tournament starting Monday, before CIF releases playoff brackets on Oct. 30 at 11 a.m.
