Burbank Rallies Late for Second Victory

The Burbank High School varsity football team secured its second consecutive victory, beating visiting St. Genevieve High of Panorama City 13-10 in a close nonleague contest on Sept. 15. Junior quarterback Daniel Zacariaz played a crucial role, completing 14 passes for 198 yards with a touchdown while also rushing for 17 yards on three carries.

Junior Max Kelley was a standout performer with four catches for a game-high 88 yards and a touchdown. Kelley also scored a 4-yard rushing touchdown on his sole carry of the game.

Junior Joseph Caballero rushed for 56 yards on 16 carries and made two receptions for 23 yards. Junior Ezekiel Alvarez made five catches for 62 yards, junior Jacob Mendieta carried the ball 12 times for 39 yards and senior Sean Garrett added with two receptions for 20 yards. Senior Brennan Miller made a 5-yard catch, while senior Chris Aguirre successfully scored an extra point.

On the defensive side, senior Marcus Ojeil recorded seven tackles, while senior Brandon Elizalde added five tackles and a 10-yard sack. Senior Mike Martinez tallied five tackles, while junior Aidan Miller finished with four tackles. Senior Levon Bakmazian and junior Landon Williams each recorded three tackles, while junior Justin Arteaga contributed two tackles. Junior Aiden Ramirez, junior Jack Rogerson, sophomore Maxim Pogosyan and sophomore Patrick Khachatryan each had one tackle.

The Bulldogs (2-3 overall) will open Pacific League action at Arcadia (3-2 overall) on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. before visiting Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta on Oct. 6.
