With summer weather on its way, officials are reminding residents to remain vigilant and ensure they are prepared for a wildfire.
Fire officials regionwide are conducting brush abatement oversight, which is. especially critical in the wake of the rainstorms’ plant proliferation that fuels wildfires.
Local residents are reminded to remain vigilant and ensure that they are prepared for a wildfire by sharing the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s tips.
“If you live on a hillside, or are spending time outdoors and see smoke or a fire, call 911,” said the Sheriff’s Facebook post. “Report the exact location of the fire and, if known, what is burning or the color of the smoke.”
The department urges residents to make a plan, be mindful of brush clearances and prepare for an evacuation if a fire starts. They also encourage people to use the checklist below in case of evacuation:
• People and pets
• Papers, phone numbers and important documents
• Prescriptions and eyeglasses
• Pictures and irreplaceable memorabilia
• Plastic (credit cards, ATM cards and cash)
• Personal computer, flash drives and hard drives
The department suggests residents have emergency supplies ready to go, including a change of clothing and toiletries.
