Bears Build on Unbeaten Start

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ basketball team remained undefeated with a 55-23 Pacific League victory at Pasadena on Dec. 12. With the victory, the Bears improved to 9-0 overall (3-0 in league) while remaining tied at the top of the standings with Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta.

Sophomore Elizabeth Amoroso registered 13 points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists, junior Mariam Fahs tallied 11 points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist, and freshman Claire Hackney contributed 10 points, five steals, four assists and two rebounds. Sophomore Anna Phillips finished with eight points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists, senior Ashley Martin produced eight rebounds, five points, five steals, five assists and one block, and senior Mia Paz recorded four points, four rebounds, two steals and one block. Freshman Jessica Mena posted four rebounds, two points, two steals, one block and one assist, freshman Polina Gorgeiz chipped in two points, two rebounds and one assist, and sophomore Alyssa Pracha was credited with two assists, one block, one steal and one rebound.

Burroughs secured a 57-36 league victory over visiting Arcadia on Dec. 8. Hackney and Fahs each scored 12 points, Martin registered eight points and 10 rebounds, and Amoroso chipped in nine points.

The Bears will visit Hoover High in Glendale for a league game on Dec. 21 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting the Burroughs Tournament starting on Dec. 26.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs edged host Arcadia 36-34 in a Pacific League game on Dec. 12 after posting a 40-28 nonleague victory at Royal High in Simi Valley Dec. 9. Burbank previously lost at Glendale, 48-17, in a league game on Dec. 8 after losing to Trinity Classical Academy, 43-19, in a nonleague game Dec. 7. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader by the Burbank coaching staff.

The Bulldogs (3-8 overall, 1-2 in league) will visit Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta for a league game on Dec. 21 at 5 p.m. before hosting Hoover High of Glendale on Jan. 4.
