Burroughs Extends Undefeated Run With Victory Over La Cañada

The Burroughs High School varsity football team continued its undefeated streak with a resounding victory over visiting La Cañada, prevailing 39-13 in a nonleague showdown on Sept. 8.

The Bears replicated last year’s impressive 4-0 start, showcasing their dominance by outscoring opponents 128-30. In comparison, the previous year’s varsity squad managed to outscore opponents 94-62 during the first four games.

Senior quarterback Chris Kulikov delivered a stellar performance, completing 12 of 18 passes for 184 yards and four touchdowns. Additionally, he showcased his mobility by leading the team in rushing with 125 yards on 10 carries. Senior captain Jake Scozzola made a significant impact with seven receptions for 112 yards and a pair of touchdowns, as well as a 2-yard rushing touchdown.

Senior captain Santiago Sanchez had 10 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown. Senior captain Ethan Hubbell made two catches for 33 yards and a touchdown, while senior captain Alex Valenzuela added two receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown.

Sophomore Matteo Tarca made a notable contribution, rushing for 93 yards on 17 carries and scoring three PATs. Senior captain Ryan Hernandez had an 8-yard catch, while junior Rocco Mellilo contributed with a 2-yard carry.

JBHS (4-0 overall) hosted Village Christian on Sept. 14; the nonleague game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Bears will open Pacific-Upper League play by hosting reigning champion Pasadena on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. before visiting Muir High in Pasadena on Oct. 6.
