Bulldogs Improve to 2-1 With Comeback Victory

The Burbank High School varsity football team collected its second straight victory after beating host Castaic, 36-20, in a nonleague game last Friday.
The Bulldogs, who improved to 2-1 overall, faced an uphill battle when trailing 20-7 at halftime. The Burbank defense held Castaic silent after the first quarter and posted 22 unanswered points in the final quarter to complete a comeback victory.
Senior Zakk Estrada had nine carries for 46 yards, a pair of touchdowns and a two-point conversion while adding three catches for 127 yards and a touchdown. He also finished with four tackles and an interception on defense.
Senior Dylan Robinson completed four passes for 161 yards and a pair of touchdowns while adding 47 rushing yards on 10 carries. Junior Jacob Mendieta rushed for 113 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown while adding four tackles on defense. Senior Ben Forster had one reception for a 34-yard touchdown while adding a tackle on defense. Junior Justin Lee carried twice for 6 yards, while junior kicker Chris Aguirre was a perfect 4-for-4 in PAT attempts.
Senior Evan Miller led the defense with a team-high nine tackles, junior Brandon Elizalde had six tackles and a sack assist, and junior Sean-Carter Garrett tallied five tackles. Senior Rene Harris registered four tackles and 1.5 sacks, senior Francois Taillefer and junior Abraham Zyada each posted four tackles, and senior Jarrett Bose and junior Salim Alaiya each recorded three tackles. Senior Mher Sahakyan, senior Elijah Becker and junior Brennan Miller each made a pair of tackles, junior Levon Bakmazian finished with one tackle and a sack, and juniors Brian Butchko, Diego Ruacho and Daniel Luga each had one tackle.
The Bulldogs hosted Brentwood School of Los Angeles in a nonleague game Friday; the result was unavailable by the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. Burbank will visit St. Genevieve High of Panorama City for a nonleague game this coming Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.
