Swimming: Chatalyan, Guillermo Shine at League Finals as Bears Finish Third

The Burroughs and Burbank high school varsity swimming and diving teams recently competed in the Pacific League finals at Glendale High School on April 25.

The Bears girls’ squad claimed third with 307.5 team points, while the boys’ team also finished third with 198 points. The Bulldogs’ boys’ squad placed fifth with 152 points, while the girls’ squad was also fifth with 145 points.

BURROUGHS

Abigail Chatalyan won the girls’ 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5 minutes, 15.16 seconds, while Madison Stakely finished 12th with 6:55.71.

In the 100 backstroke, Camilla Guillermo won with a time of 1:00.88. Julienne Beil finished sixth with 1:09.15, Leah Hess was ninth with 1:11.65 and Stakely placed 16th with 1:24.56.

Chatalyan earned second in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.92. Bonnie Kretzman finished 12th with 2:23.34, while Abigail Baum secured 14th with 2:25.50.

Guillermo clinched second in the 50 free with a time of 25.43. Hess finished 11th with 28.52, Bella Matossian was 12th with 28.59 and Beil placed 15th with 28.63.

The 200 free relay team of Lauren Chaparro, Chatalyan, Matossian and Guillermo secured second with a time of 1:48.25. In the 400 free relay, Anastasia Zubkoff, Chatalyan, Chaparro and Guillermo finished second with 3:56.77. Tyler Timman, Hess, Baum, and Beil formed the 200 medley relay team, finishing fourth with a time of 2:07.35.

Zubkoff finished third in the 200 individual medley with 2:27.96, followed by Tyler Timman in 13th with 2:47.48, and Sonia Donnel in 15th with 2:53.76. Zubkoff secured third in the 100 free with a time of 1:00.45. Chaparro placed 14th with 1:03.90, Derika Berenguer was 15th with 1:07.35 and Donnel finished 16th with 1:07.66.

Tyler Timman finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke with 1:19.03. Kretzman secured 11th with 1:26.20, while Ava Tomlinson finished 13th with 1:27.56. In the 100 butterfly, Baum secured eighth with 1:12.03, while Morgan Wright finished 16th with 1:24.84.

For the boys’ team, Ryan Lee won the 200 free with a time of 1:42.45. In the 100 backstroke, Lee won with a time of 55.49. Ranger Timman finished ninth with 1:03.12, followed by Clyde Jordan in 16th with 1:14.91.

The 200 free relay team, consisting of Harrison Siegel, Liam Wamester, Ian Duffield and Lee finished third with a time of 1:32.48. Ranger Timman, Logan Turla, Dylan Stefansen and Dean Yuzna formed the 200 medley relay team, finishing fifth with a time of 1:54.47.

In the 100 butterfly, Wamester placed eighth with 58.42, followed by Aidan Means in ninth with 1:00.77. Caleb DuFour was 12th with 1:05.24, while Jordan finished 13th with 1:10.78.

Siegel finished ninth in the 50 free with a time of 23.50, followed by Duffield in 11th with 23.98, and Yuzna in 12th with 24.08. Ranger Timman secured tenth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:17.35.

In the 100 free, Duffield finished ninth with 52.75, while Siegel was 10th with 52.95. Wamester placed 13th with 55.04, while Turla took 16th with 56.30. Means finished 11th in the 500 free with 5:34.80, Turla secured 11th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.44.

BURBANK

Tiffany Gonzalez finished second in the girls’ 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.68, while Areni Aghajani finished 15th with 1:21.22. In the 50 free, Gonzalez finished fourth with a time of 26.53.

The 200 free relay team of Iliana Brio, Cynthia Golbedaghians, Aghajani and Gonzalez clinched fifth with a time of 1:57.93. Daniella Hakopian, Melanie Hayrapetian, Lina Tahmasian and Hannah Reyes formed the 400 free relay team, finishing eighth with 5:25.40. The 200 medley relay team, consisting of Fedora Kasbari, Audrey Ebrahimi, Angela Khachikyan and Aghajani finished seventh with a time of 2:27.80.

Brio placed seventh in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:19.11, followed by Golbedaghians in 12th with 1:27.25, and Carin Tahmasian in 16th with 1:29.67. In the 200 IM, Brio finished seventh with a time of 2:29.82, while Ebrahimi was 14th with 2:52.53.

Aghajani finished 14th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:17.13, while Golbedaghians placed 16th in the 200 free with a time of 2:28.66.

The boys’ 200 free relay team of Alexander Ananyan, Arman Yegshatov, Narek Karayan and Peter Hovsepian placed fifth with a time of 1:45.49. Ryan Kim, Ananyan, Hovsepian and Karayan formed the 200 medley relay team, finished sixth with a time of 1:56.41. Monteh Shamiryan, Arman Vopyan, Andrew Wu and Lincoln Zick comprised the 400 free relay team, finishing seventh with a time of 4:41.62.

Kim finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.40, while Hovsepian secured 12th with 1:12.05. In the 200 IM, Kim secured sixth with a time of 2:06.29.

Karayan finished 14th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:10.96, Hovsepian finished 15th in the 100 free with a time of 56.18 and Andranik Bibulyan finished 16th in the 500 free with a time of 6:42.48.
