Track and Field: Slaughter, Laughlin Capture Pair of League Titles

The Burroughs and Burbank high school varsity track and field teams recently competed in the Pacific League finals at Arcadia High School on April 25.

The Bulldogs boys’ squad finished second with 129 team points, while the girls’ team also finished second with 99 points. The Bears’ boys’ team placed fourth with 75 points, while the girls’ squad was also fourth with 63 points.

BURBANK

For the Bulldogs girls’ team, Emily Shirvanian claimed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.92 seconds.

In the 400, Alexandra Slek placed sixth with a time of 1:06.50, followed by Kaitlynn Patterson in seventh with 1:07.79. Ashley Sosa finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:25.22, while in the 1,600, she placed seventh with a time of 5:28.33. Annika Basco finished 17th in the 3,200 with a time of 15:04.39.

In the 100 hurdles, Juliette Lambert placed second with a time of 17.22, followed by Arpi Airapetian in fifth with 18.99, and Ryan Bragg in seventh with 19.14. Lambert also secured second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 51.12. Airapetian was fifth with 57.17, while Bragg took sixth with 57.44.

The 4×100 relay team of Noemi Dilanchian, Olivia Bauer, Shirvanian and Lambert finished third with a time of 53.44. The 4×400 relay team of Laressa Ottosson, Alexandra Slek, Bragg and Lambert claimed fourth with a time of 4:24.52.

In the field events, Chloe Rogerson placed sixth in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 5 inches.

In the pole vault, Alexandra Slek claimed third with a height of 8-0, followed by Rafaela Torokian in fourth with 7-6.

Cassandra Ayala finished 11th in the long jump with a distance of 13-10, while Torokian (12-9 1/2) and Maria Mirzoyan (12-9) took 13th and 14th, respectively.

In the triple jump, Chloe Rogerson finished 11th with a distance of 26-9 1/2. Ayala was 13th with 26-01, while Gulim Seitimbetova placed 14th with 25-01.

Chase Harris secured third in the shot put with a distance of 33-3, followed by Bauer in fifth with 29.01. Danya Terry was seventh with 26-2 3/4, Mina Cardenas finished 12th with a distance of 23-9 and Lara Khozahi placed 14th with 19-4 1/2.

In the discus throw, Harris earned second with a throw of 107-7, followed by Khozahi in third with 102-06. Mane Asilbekyan was fifth with 85-3, while Cardenas secured ninth with a throw of 75-09. Terry placed 10th with 73-7, Jordana Prilutsky was 12th with 72-2 and Ottosson claimed 17th with 48-5.

For the Burbank boys’ team, Daniel Slaughter won the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.20. Quint Bastian was fourth with 16.44, while Bryce Angeles placed fifth with 17.14. Slaughter also won the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.90. Bastian finished third with 43.59, while Angeles took fourth with 44.78.

The 4×100 relay team of Zion McDonald, Christian Bozeman, Mike Allen and Aidan Phillips clinched first with a time of 42.54. In the 4×400 relay, the team of Mateyo De Leon, Dylan La Marsna, Maxwell LeSane and Daniel Schenk finished fifth with a time of 3:38.58.

Ricardo Mujica finished fifth in the 3,200 with a time of 9:46.21. Maxime Slek followed in 14th with 10:07.34, Liam Copeland was 24th with 10:58.65 and Sanjay Dhamodharan finished 28th with 11:04.80. Raymond Muradyan claimed 31st with 11:21.09, while Edgar Flores was 34th with 11:34.31. William Klein finished 36th with 11:53.77, while Naveen D’Sa placed 38th with 12:55.52.

In the 100, Caleb Fraley secured fifth with a time of 11.31. Joseph Caballero took sixth with 11.49, while Isaac Otero finished seventh with 11.58. Mujica also claimed fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 4:26.68.

In the 800, Mujica finished sixth with 2:04.35, while La Marsna secured seventh with 2:05.94. Caballero finished seventh in the 200 with a time of 23.76, while Schenk secured eighth in the 400 with a time of 53.01.

In the field events, Ogden Lucsik won the pole vault with a height of 15-3. Ryan George Kochout placed second with 11-3, while Alan Otis was fourth with 9-9.

Aidan Miller secured third in the discus throw with a distance of 135-2, while Eduardo Martinez finished seventh with 107-9. Ruben Edward Zakarian was eighth with 102-5, while Paul Sukunyan finished ninth with 101-11. Saikiran Madugula took 12th with 93-0, while Nathan Ramos was 23rd with 57-3.

Lucsik excelled in the long jump, finishing third with a distance of 20-1. Other participants included Fraley in 13th with 18-0, Sean Garrett in 14th with 17-7 1/2 and Justin Lee in 16th with 17-5 1/2. Caballero finished 17th with 16-9, Kochout took 18th with 16-6, Jack Rogerson placed 19th with 16-3 1/2 and De Leon was 20th with 16-3.

In the shot put, Miller claimed fifth with a throw of 40-4, while Sukunyan finished seventh with 38-4 1/2. Martinez placed eighth with 37-1 1/2, while Zakarian was 11th with 35-4 1/2. Madugula finished 14th with 31-10 1/2, while Ramos took 15th with 30-10.

Jack Rogerson and Bastian both secured sixth in the high jump with a height of 5-2.

In the triple jump event, Lucsik finished seventh with a distance of 38-3. Lee was ninth with 36-8, Jack Rogerson placed 10th with 35-1 and Garrett finished 11th with 34-9.

BURROUGHS

In the girls’ field events, Quiana Laughlin won the long jump with a distance of 16-6. Jailyn Turner finished third with 15-4, while Makayla Victoria was 16th with 12-1.

Laughlin also won the high jump with a height of 4-9. Maddie Page took fifth in the pole vault, clearing 7-0. In the triple jump event, Ella Sage finished fifth with a distance of 30-6, while Page secured eighth with 28-0.

In the track events, Sage placed third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 53.05. In the 100, Laughlin finished fourth with a time of 12.97. Zoe Ben-Yair took fifth with 13.05, while Turner placed eighth with 13.33.

Isabella Galustians completed the 1,600 in fifth with a time of 5:18.19. Ben-Yair claimed third in the 200 with a time of 26.63, while Turner finished seventh with 28.09. Kayla Cabral finished 11th in the 800 with a time of 2:51.41, while Anya Kallianpur finished 11th in the 3,200 with a time of 13:31.29.

For the JBHS boys’ team, the 4×400 relay team of Alex Acevedo, Jaelin Smith, Ethan Rivas and Alexander Jeronimo claimed first place with a time of 3:24.41.

In the 200, Jeronimo was second with a time of 22.19, while Jaelin Smith finished fifth with 22.93. Jeronimo took second in 400 with a time of 49.45, while Jaelin Smith was fourth with 50.53. Acevedo claimed second in the 800 with a time of 1:58.47.

In the 110 hurdles, Phoenix Elkin finished third with a time of 16.15, while Jack Nothom secured seventh place with 21.16. Liam Ellingsworth finished sixth in the 1,600 with a time of 4:28.74, while Luke Martinez finished sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.30.

Ellingsworth also competed in the 3,200, finishing 10th with a time of 10:00.37. Nicholas Delgado finished 16th with 10:11.10, while Danny Camacho was 20th with 10:38.56. Justin Cano claimed 24th with 10:59.75, Dylan Chua finished 27th with 11:02.77 and Rogelio Raya placed 29th with 11:10.32.

In the field events, Elkin won the long jump with a distance of 20-8 1/2, while Blayne Smith secured 12th with 18-2.

Joseph Roberts placed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 8-9. In the triple jump, Blayne Smith finished fifth with a distance of 38-3, while Zachary Walker placed 12th with 34-4.

Diego Montes was 10th in the shot put with a distance of 35-8 1/2, while Julian Arca secured 16th with 29-4. Arca also competed in the discus throw, finishing 19th with a distance of 74-5.
