Boys’ Volleyball: Gerard, Duffield Lead Burroughs Past Westlake

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ volleyball team was swept by visiting Crespi High of Encino, 17-25, 17-25, 21-25, in a nonleague match on Feb. 28.

Rilen Ixtlahuac registered seven assists and three kills, while Anthony Ohanian finished with seven assists and three aces. Ian Villaflor contributed six digs, two assists and one ace, while Ryan Viyar tallied six kills and one ace. Vince Ha recorded three kills and one ace, while Theo Thorossian chipped in three kills. Sam Jurman produced one kill and one block, while Taiyo Nakao had one kill.

The Bulldogs were swept at Castaic, 20-25, 12-25, 9-25, in a nonleague match on Feb. 26.

Ixtlahuac tallied seven kills, seven assists, three digs and two aces, while Jordan Ribas registered five kills, three digs and one assist. Viyar finished with six digs and five kills, while Jurman recorded four kills and one block. Ohanian was credited with nine assists, while Villaflor recorded five digs and two assists. Thorossian contributed one kill and one block, Nakao collected two digs, and Ha had one ace.

Burbank was swept at Mark Keppel High in Alhambra, 17-25, 23-25, 19-25, in a nonleague match on Feb. 23. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

The Bulldogs (1-3 overall) will visit Canyon High in Santa Clarita for a nonleague match on March 5 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Burroughs High for its Pacific League opener on March 7.

BURROUGHS

The Bears secured a four-game victory at Westlake High in Westlake Village, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22, in a nonleague match on Feb. 28.

Charlie Gerard finished with 10 kills, while Noah Duffield registered nine kills. Henry Carlin recorded 19 assists and nine kills, Marci Reyes was credited with 19 assists, and Nathan Kameya produced 14 digs.

Burroughs (3-2) will visit St. Francis High in La Cañada for a nonleague match on March 6 at 5 p.m. before traveling to Burbank for its Pacific League opener on March 7.
