Boys’ Tennis: Bulldogs Perfect Against Hoover

The Burroughs High School varsity boys’ tennis team defeated visiting Hoover High of Glendale, 16-2, in a Pacific League match on Feb. 27.

The Bears received sweeps in singles action from No. 1 Bernard Woods (6-4, 6-3, 6-3) and No. 3 Aditya Kiran (6-1, 6-3, 6-1), while No. 2 Zachary Barry added a pair of victories with scores of 6-1 and 6-1.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jaden Chapman and Iulian Lundberg won a pair of sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Lundberg alternated with James Stell, who, alongside Chapman, completed the sweep with a 6-4 win. The No. 2 tandem of Miles Howell and Ari Pathak swept with scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, while the No. 3 team of Paul Vu and Bevan Maxwell added a pair of victories with scores of 6-1 and 6-0.

The Bears suffered a 16-2 loss at Arcadia in a league match on Feb. 22. No. 3 Chapman won a set with a 6-1 score, while the No. 3 doubles team of Vu and Kiran added a 6-2 victory.

Burroughs (2-3 overall, 1-1 in league) will host Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta for a league match on March 5 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Burbank on March 12.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs routed visiting Pasadena 17-1 in a Pacific League match on Feb. 27.

No. 1 Raphael Lazaryev (6-1, 6-1, 6-0) and No. 3 Dominic Aleman (7-5, 6-4, 6-0) each swept their singles sets, while No. 2 David Kerimyan won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-0.

The No. 1 doubles team of Ashot Aramyan and James Basco swept with a trio of 6-1 scores, while the No. 2 tandem of Harutyun Keklikyan and Desmond McNeill also swept with scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2. The No. 3 team of Blake Lewis and Vamsi Chintha won a pair of sets with identical 6-0 scores. David Petrosyan alternated with Lewis, and the new duo added a 6-4 win.

Burbank suffered a 13-5 loss to visiting Arcadia in a league match on Feb. 23.

No. 3 Aleman won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-0, while No. 2 Kerimyan won a set with a 6-1 score. The No. 1 doubles team of Aramyan and Basco won a set with a 7-6 (7-5) score, while the No. 3 tandem of Lewis and Chintha added a 6-4 victory.

The Bulldogs shut out host Hoover High in Glendale 18-0 in a league match on Feb. 22.

Burbank (2-1 in league) will host Glendale for a league match on March 5 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta on March 7.
