Boys’ Volleyball: Bulldogs Win Opener, Bears Bounce Back

The Burroughs High School varsity boys’ volleyball team defeated host Newbury Park in four games, 17-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23, in a nonleague match on Feb. 21.

Benji Ly registered 16 kills and five digs, while Henry Carlin finished with 12 assists, 11 digs and eight kills. Marci Reyes was credited with 12 assists, while Nathan Kameya tallied 10 digs.

The Bears suffered a five-game loss to visiting Claremont, 17-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-27, 17-19, in a nonleague match on Feb. 20.

Ly produced 15 kills and eight digs, Charlie Gerard recorded 11 kills and six digs, and Carlin chipped in nine kills. Jae Kung was credited with 21 assists, Caiden Shrode finished with 17 assists and Kameya had 12 digs.

Burroughs (1-1 overall) will visit Westlake High in Westlake Village for a match on Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. before traveling to West Ranch High in Valencia on March 1.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs swept visiting Salesian High of Los Angeles, 25-13, 25-12, 25-18, in their season opener on Feb. 21. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burbank (1-0) will visit Castaic for a nonleague match on Feb. 26 at 5:15 p.m. before traveling to La Cañada Flintridge on Feb. 27.
