Boys’ Tennis: Burroughs Cruises to First League Win

The Burroughs High School varsity boys’ tennis team secured a 15-3 Pacific League victory at Pasadena on Feb. 21.

Bears No. 2 singles Aditya Kiran swept his side by scores of 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, and No. 3 singles Jaden Chapman also won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0. Burroughs No. 1 singles Bernard Woods added a pair of wins with scores of 6-2 and 6-0.

The No. 1 doubles team of Ari Pathak and Miles Howell won two sets, 6-1, 6-1, and the No. 2 tandem of Jacob Hughes and Iulian Lundberg also won a pair of sets, 6-1, 6-1. The No. 3 duo of Paul Vu and Bevan Maxwell won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-0, before alternating with Mateo Solis and Zachary Barry, who added a 6-3 victory.

The Bears lost at Valencia High in Santa Clarita in games, 9-9 (86-74), in a nonleague match on Feb. 15.

No. 2 Kiran swept with scores of 7-5, 6-4 and 6-2, while No. 1 Woods (6-4, 6-1) and No. 3 Zachary Barry (7-5, 6-1) each won a pair of sets.

The No. 1 doubles team of Vu and Maxwell won a set, 6-3, while the No. 3 tandem of Pathak and Howell added a 7-6 (7-2) victory.

Burroughs (1-2 overall) will host Hoover High of Glendale for a Pacific League match on Feb. 27 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Glendale on Feb. 29.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs were scheduled to host Arcadia on Feb. 20, however, the Pacific League match was rescheduled to Feb. 23 due to inclement weather. The result was unavailable by the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.

Burbank will host Pasadena for a league match on Feb. 27 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Glendale on March 5.
