Burroughs Girls’ Basketball Dominate CIF First-round Matchup

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ basketball team defeated visiting Paloma Valley High of Menifee, 62-37, in its CIF Southern Section Division II-A opener on Feb. 8. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

The Bears (24-5 overall) will visit Aquinas High in San Bernardino (22-7 overall) for their second-round game on Feb. 10.

BURBANK VS. BURROUGHS

Burroughs defeated visiting Burbank 53-17 in its regular season and Pacific League finale on Feb. 1.

The Bears were led by junior Mariam Fahs, who poured in a team-best 19 points with five steals, three rebounds, two assists and one block. Senior Ashley Martin registered 10 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists, sophomore Elizabeth Amoroso tallied eight points, eight steals, four rebounds and two assists, and freshman Jessica Mena contributed seven points, three rebounds, one block and one steal. Sophomore Gabriella Buendia chipped in four points and two rebounds, sophomore Valentina Morales recorded two points, two rebounds and one assist, and senior Mia Paz finished with three rebounds, two points and one steal. Sophomore Alyssa Pracha collected six rebounds, junior Ella Anderson had one point and one steal, and sophomore Anna Phillips was credited with one assist.

Individual Burbank player statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader. The Bulldogs finished the campaign sixth in league with a 4-10 record (7-19 overall).
