Burbank, Burroughs Girls’ Water Polo Battle in Pacific League Tournament

The Burbank High School varsity girls’ water polo team secured a 4-3 overtime victory against Hoover High of Glendale in the preliminary round of the Pacific League Tournament on Jan. 30.

Angela Khachikyan finished with eight saves and three steals, while Elizabeth Bislamyan chipped in two goals and one steal. Natalie Bislamyan recorded five steals, one goal and one assist, while Elina Khechumyan tallied two steals, one goal and one assist. Cynthia Goli registered three steals, while Kristina Khamtrashyan and Melanie Hayrapetian each had one steal.

The Bulldogs lost to Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta 10-3 in the first round of the league tournament on Jan. 25.

Khachikyan contributed 12 saves and three steals, Natalie Bislamyan produced four steals, two goals and one assist, and Elizabeth Bislamyan scored one goal. Khechumyan finished with one steal and one assist, Hayrapetian recorded two steals, and Khloe Aghakhani had one steal.

Burbank, the No. 6 seed with a 6-14 overall record, battled No. 5 Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta in the fifth-place game of the league tournament on Feb. 1; the game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Feb. 3 at 9 a.m. and the Bulldogs will compete in Division V.

BURROUGHS

The Bears lost in overtime to Arcadia 12-11 in the preliminary round of the Pacific League Tournament on Jan. 30.

Burroughs previously secured an 11-9 victory over Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta after losing 6-3 to Muir High of Pasadena in the first round of tournament action on Jan. 25. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burroughs, the No. 4 seed with a 10-12 overall record, battled No. 3 Muir High in the third-place game of the League Tournament on Feb. 1; the game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Bears will find out who their Division III opponent is when the CIF Southern Section playoff brackets are released Feb. 3 at 9 a.m.
