Burroughs Girls’ Basketball Bounces Muir Ahead of CIF Playoff Draw

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ basketball team routed visiting Hoover High of Glendale 64-14 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 26 as junior Mariam Fahs poured in 19 points.

Freshman Polina Gorgeiz registered nine points, senior Mia Paz and freshman Jessica Mena each scored seven points, and sophomores Anna Phillips and Valentina Morales each finished with six points. Junior Ella Anderson tallied five points, sophomore Alyssa Pracha chipped in four points and senior Ashley Martin had one point.

The Bears lost to visiting Chaminade High of West Hills, 55-44, in a nonleague game on Jan. 27, before defeating visiting Muir High of Pasadena, 74-53, in a league game on Jan. 30. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burroughs (22-5 overall, 11-2 in league) visited Burbank for its regular season finale on Feb. 1; the league game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Feb. 4 at 12:30 p.m. The Bears will compete in Division II-A and are ranked No. 11 in the recent CIF polling.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs snapped their five-game losing streak with a 69-23 Pacific League victory at Hoover High in Glendale on Jan. 30, after previously suffering a 71-34 league loss against visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta on Jan. 26. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burbank (7-18, 4-9) hosted Burroughs High for its regular season finale on Feb. 1; the league game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If qualified for the CIF Southern Section playoffs, the Bulldogs will compete in Division III-AA.
