Burroughs Sinks Rival Burbank

The Burroughs High School varsity girls water polo team defeated visiting Burbank 10-2 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 23.

Four players scored twice for the Bears. Ava Tomlinson, who racked up five steals, three assists and two goals, Siahni Suraez registered three steals, two goals, one block and one assist, Morgan Wright tallied two goals, two steals and one assist, and Derrika Berenguer chipped in two goals, one steal and one assist. Ana Zubkoff recorded eight steals, two blocks, one goal and one assist, while Olivia Dominguez contributed two steals, one goal and one assist. Molly Gilmore produced five blocks, while Sarah Metry was credited with two assists. Audrey Willett collected one block and one steal, while Mirabel Ha, Lauren Chaparro and Bonnie Kretzmann each had one steal.

For the Bulldogs, goalie Angela Khachikyan recorded 16 saves, Elizabeth Bislamyan finished with two steals and one goal, and Kristina Khamtrashyan tallied one goal and one steal. Melanie Hayrapetian contributed two steals, while Natalie Bislamyan had one steal.

Burroughs will be the No. 3 seed in the Pacific League Tournament with a 5-2 record (9-10 overall). Burbank will be the No. 6 seed in the league tournament with a 2-5 record (5-13 overall). Tournament prelims and finals will be held at Arcadia High School on Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, respectively.

BURROUGHS

The Bears picked up a 12-5 Pacific League victory at Pasadena on Jan. 18 as Gilmore racked up seven blocks.

Berenguer scored four goals, Tomlinson chipped in three goals, and Bella Matossian, Willett, Wright and Zubkoff each finished with one goal.

Burroughs competed in the Whittier Tournament and beat Brea Olinda High, 19-5, but lost to St. Lucy’s High High of Glendora, 9-4, and Cypress, 15-8.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs lost at Arcadia 17-9 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 18 as Khachikyan finished with 13 saves and one steal.

Elina Khechumyan registered three goals, two steals and one assist, while Elizabeth Bislamyan scored three goals. Natalie Bislamyan recorded one goal, one steal and one assist, while Hayrapetian tallied one goal and one steal. Khamtrashyan chipped in one goal, while Cynthia Goli was credited with one assist.
