Tomlin Nets Five to Give Bears Close Win Over Muir

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ water polo team edged visiting Muir High of Pasadena 8-7 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 16 as Ava Tomlin racked up five goals and four steals.

Ana Zubkoff registered six steals and one goal, Derrika Berenguer tallied five steals, two assists and one goal, and Sarah Metry contributed two steals, two assists and one goal. Molly Gilmore finished with six saves, while Audrey Willett recorded five steals and one block. Morgan Wright and Olivia Dominguez each produced one steal, while Siahni Suraez had one block.

The Bears lost to visiting Crescenta Valley High in La Crescent, 9-7, in a league matchup on Jan. 11, as Tomlin chipped in three goals, two steals and one assist.

Wright and Zubkoff each finished with four steals, two assists and one goal, Dominguez recorded one goal, one steal and one assist, and Willett tallied one goal and one block. Gilmore registered four saves, Berenguer contributed one steal and one assist, and Metry had one block.

JBHS (6-8 overall, 3-2 in league) will host Burbank for a league game on Jan. 23 at 3:45 p.m. The Bears will then compete in the Pacific League tournament at Arcadia High starting on Jan. 26.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs lost at Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta 10-3 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 16 as Angela Khachikyan racked up 20 saves and five steals.

Natalie Bislamyan finished with one goal, one assist and one steal, while Melanie Hayrapetian tallied two steals and one goal. Cynthia Goli scored one goal, while Elina Khechumyan recorded one assist and one steal.

Burbank suffered a 14-7 league loss at Glendale on Jan. 11 as Elizabeth Bislamyan chipped in four goals.

Khachikyan produced 13 saves, three steals and two assists, while Hayrapetian produced three steals and two goals. Natalie Bislamyan was credited with a pair of assists, while Kristina Khamtrashyan scored one goal.

The Bulldogs (5-10, 2-3) will visit Burroughs High for a league game on Jan. 23 at 3:45 p.m. Burbank will then compete in the Pacific League tournament at Arcadia High starting on Jan. 26.
