Hackney, Amoroso Lead Bears Past Bulldogs

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ basketball team routed host Arcadia 54-9 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 16.

Junior Mariam Fahs poured in 11 points with four steals, three rebounds, one block and one assist, while sophomore Elizabeth Amoroso registered 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sophomore Valentina Morales tallied eight points, five rebounds, two assists and one block, senior Mia Paz finished with five points, three steals and one rebound, and junior Ella Anderson scored five points. Senior Ashley Martin produced four points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal, sophomore Anna Phillips chipped in three points, three rebounds and one assist, and sophomore Alyssa Pracha recorded five rebounds, three points, three steals and one assist. Freshman Claire Hackney contributed three steals, two points, two rebounds and two assists, while freshman Jessica Mena had two points, one steal and one rebound. Freshman Polina Gorgeiz collected three rebounds, while sophomore Gabriella Buendia was credited with two assists and one steal.

The Bears secured a 61-32 league victory over Burbank on Jan. 12 as Hackney poured in 12 points with two assists and one steal.

Pracha tallied 11 points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Amoroso registered 11 points, five assists and two steals. Fahs finished with six points, three rebounds and two assists, while Martin recorded eight rebounds, six points, six assists, two blocks and two steals. Mena produced six rebounds, five points, two steals and one assist, while Morales contributed eight rebounds, four points, two assists, one block and one steal. Phillips chipped in three points, two rebounds and one steal, while Buendia was credited with three rebounds, two points, two steals and one assist. Paz notched six rebounds, two steals and one point, while Gorgeiz and Anderson each had two rebounds.

Burroughs (19-2 overall, 8-1 in league) will visit first-place Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta for a crucial league game on Jan. 23 at 6:45 p.m. before hosting Hoover High of Glendale on Jan. 26.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs suffered a pair of Pacific League losses against Glendale, 59-40, on Jan. 16 and Burroughs High, 61-32, on Jan. 12. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burbank (6-15, 3-6) will visit Pasadena for a league game on Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. before hosting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta on Jan. 26.
