Bears, Bulldogs Fall Short in League Matchups

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ water polo team lost at Glendale 10-8 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 9.

Morgan Wright recorded three goals and one assist, while Ava Tomlin contributed six steals, two goals and one assist. Siahni Suraez chipped in two goals and one steal, while Sarah Metry finished with one goal, one steal and one assist. Audrey Willett was credited with two assists, one block and one steal, while Molly Gilmore registered four saves. Derrika Berenguer produced one block, while Olivia Dominguez and Gigi Jancezsk each had one steal.

The Bears secured a convincing 14-7 league victory over visiting Hoover High of Glendale on Jan. 4.

Gilmore finished with nine saves, one steal and one assist, while Tomlin racked up eight goals, three steals and two assists. Wright chipped in two goals and one assist, while Dominguez finished with three steals, one goal, one assist and one block. Metry contributed three steals, one goal, one assist, Suraez recorded two assists, one goal and one steal, and Jancezsk produced two steals and one goal.

Burroughs (5-7 overall, 2-1 in league) will host Muir High of Pasadena on Jan. 16 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Pasadena on Jan. 18.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs lost at Muir High in Pasadena 7-6 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 9 as Angela Khachikyan recorded 13 saves, eight steals and one goal.

Kristina Khamtrashyan tallied one goal, one steal and one assist, while Elizabeth Bislamyan registered one goal and one steal. Elina Khechumyan, Melanie Hayrapetian and Khloe Aghakhani each scored one goal, while Natalie Bislamyan had one steal and one assist.

Burbank picked up a 7-3 league victory at Pasadena on Jan. 4 as Khachikyan racked up 13 saves.

Natalie Bislamyan produced three steals, two goals and one assist, while Elizabeth Bislamyan chipped in two goals and two steals. Khechumyan tallied one goal, one steal and one assist, Hayrapetian registered two steals and one goal, and Khamtrashyan contributed one goal and one assist.

The Bulldogs (5-8, 2-1) will visit Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta for a league game on Jan. 16 at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Arcadia on Jan. 19.
