Police Return Stolen Bird to Pet Store

Burbank Police officers resolved a pet store theft last week after a customer took off with a bird.

Officers were contacted by Scales N’ Tails store employees requesting a theft investigation after a man attempted to steal a double yellow sun conure, also known as the sun parakeet, who had made roost at the store.

According to police, the suspect expressed interest in purchasing the bird, who was approximately 11 months old.

“The employee allowed the suspect to hold the bird and while the employee tended to another customer, the suspect exited the store, bird in hand,” police said.

Fortunately, BPD detectives were able to locate the suspect and recover the bird. Afterward, the detectives posed for a photo with the store owner and the recovered parakeet.

“ImPECKable work done by everyone involved to help bring the bird back safe and sound,” police said in a social media post.
