Burbank League Opener Ends in Stalemate

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ soccer team tied host Muir High in Pasadena 1-1 in its Pacific League opener on Dec. 5.

Senior Bryan Juarez scored one goal, senior George Atallah was credited with an assist and senior goalie Hayk Tovmasyan recorded three saves. Junior Rigo Garcia tallied two shots on goal, while junior David Agababian, sophomore Raymond Soukiazian and sophomore Aram Hovanessian each had one shot on goal.

The Bulldogs blanked visiting Taft High of Woodland Hills 1-0 in a nonleague match on Dec. 2. Atallah scored the deciding goal, while Tovmasyan registered five saves to preserve the shutout.

Burbank lost to visiting Royal High of Simi Valley 1-0 in a nonleague matchup on Nov. 30 as Tovmasyan registered seven saves.

The Bulldogs (4-1-2 overall, 0-0-1 in league) will visit Arcadia for a league match on Dec. 12 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Pasadena on Dec. 15.

BURROUGHS

The Bears lost to visiting Glendale 7-0 in their Pacific League opener on Dec. 5.

Burroughs posted a narrow 2-1 nonleague win over visiting Schurr High of Montebello on Dec. 2. Senior Joseph Earl and junior Danny Pascual each scored one goal.

The Bears (1-2, 0-1) will visit Pasadena for a league game on Dec. 12 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta on Dec. 15.
