Bulldogs, Bears Embark on Playoff Contention

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ water polo team posted an 8-3 victory over visiting Redondo Union in its CIF Southern Section Division II opener on Oct. 31, as senior Alec Chalkdzhyan racked up 14 saves.

Junior Gevorg Choginvan recorded three goals, two assists and two steals, while senior Andranik Bilbulyan tallied four steals, two goals and one assist. Freshman Avvo Ilangesyan scored two goals, while senior Rafael Gevorgyan finished with one goal and one steal. Junior Avet Avetisyan registered five steals and one assist, junior Daniel Agazaryan chipped in two assists and senior Hayk Atanasyan had one steal.

The Bulldogs (21-11) narrowly lost to visiting Portola High of Irvine 14-13 in the second-round matchup on Nov. 2; details of that result will be in next week’s Burbank Leader issue.

BURROUGHS

The Bears lost at Santa Monica 12-9 in their CIF Southern Section Division III opener on Oct. 31. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burroughs finished the campaign fourth in the Pacific League with a 6-3 record (14-16 overall).
