Bears Sweep Rival Bulldogs in League Showdown

The Burroughs and Burbank high school varsity girls’ volleyball teams clashed for a Pacific League showdown on Sept. 21.

The visiting Bears swept the Bulldogs in the rivalry match, 25-22, 25-17, 25-18.

Burroughs senior Tawnie Ohrt produced a match-high seven kills with four aces, sophomore Sienna Lay finished with seven digs and five kills, and senior Sadie Lomet chipped in five kills. Sophomore Savana Lay registered 14 assists and six digs, freshman Zoe Davis tallied four aces, and junior Bella Barerra was credited with three assists.

Burbank’s Astoria Torres led the team with five kills and one dig, while teammate Allie Foenander added four kills, two digs and one ace. Ally Molloy registered seven digs, three kills and one ace, while Raquel Fox tallied three digs, two kills and one ace. Addy Ritner chipped in two kills and two blocks, while Bee Barona contributed two digs and one kill. Olivia Romagnino racked up 14 digs and one assist, Grace O’Connor was credited with 10 assists, two digs and one ace, and Arpa Khechadoorian collected five assists, two digs and one ace. Jamie Moon had one kill, while Maddy Edwards had one dig.

Burroughs (10-8 overall, 5-4 in league) will host Providence High in a nonlegaue match on Oct. 2 at 3:45 p.m. before resuming Pacific League play at Muir High in Pasadena on Oct. 3.

Meanwhile, Burbank (3-19, 2-7) will host Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta in a league match on Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. before visiting Arcadia on Oct. 5.

BURROUGHS

The Bears lost to visit Glendale in four games 25-21, 21-25, 21-25, 19-25 in a league match on Sept. 26.

Ohrt tallied 14 digs and seven kills, while Savana Lay racked up 24 assists. Sienna Lay finished with 12 digs and five kills, while junior Kiana Hildebrandt contributed 11 digs. Lomet chipped in 11 kills, while sophomore Khloe Pavia recorded five kills.

BURBANK

Burbank High School’s Olivia Romagnino, pictured during match earlier this season, tallied 14 digs during a Pacific League match against Burroughs High on Sept. 21.

The Bulldogs competed in the Crescenta Valley Tournament last weekend, suffering losses against Marshall High of Los Angeles, 18-25, 12-25; Maranatha High of Pasadena, 15-25, 12-25; and Mayfield Senior of Pasadena, 12-25, 11-25. Burbank recently won a thrilling league match against Muir High of Pasadena in five games on Sept. 26. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.
