Burroughs’ Win Streak Snapped by Village Christian

The Burroughs High School varsity football team’s four-game winning streak ended following a 32-27 defeat to visiting Village Christian High of Sun Valley, concluding the nonleague segment of the regular season schedule on Sept. 14.

Senior quarterback Chris Kulikov completed 21 of 31 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 55 yards on 10 carries. Junior quarterback Rocco Mellilo completed all three of his pass attempts for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Senior captain Ethan Hubbell showcased his skills with six catches for 93 yards and a touchdown, and returned an interception for a touchdown. Senior Alex Valenzuela added three receptions for 42 yards and two touchdowns, while senior captain Jake Scozzola made 12 receptions for 93 yards.

Senior Noah Frenkel made a 15-yard catch, while senior captain Ryan Hernandez had two catches for 14 yards. Senior captain Santiago Sanchez carried the ball four times for 6 yards, while sophomore Matteo Tarca scored three extra-point attempts.

The Bears (4-1 overall) will host Pasadena for its Pacific League opener on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. before visiting Muir High in Pasadena on Oct. 6.
