Burbank Sweeps Pasadena; Bears Edged by Hoover

The Burbank High School varsity girls’ tennis team earned a clean sweep over visiting Pasadena last Tuesday in a Pacific League match with an 18-0 victory.
No. 1 singles Sena Hammel, a sophomore, was perfect by collecting three 6-0 wins, while No. 2 singles Bernadette Hovhanasyan dominated with 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 victories. Freshman Ariana Khougaeva tallied a pair of victories, 6-0, 6-0, before rotating with sophomore Yeva Sarkisian.
The No. 1 doubles team of senior Nairi Zeytounzian and junior Brianna Khobramasihi was perfect, winning each set by scores of 6-0. The No. 2 tandem of senior Ellen Petrosyan and junior Molly Foenander (6-1, 6-1, 6-0), and the No. 3 duo of sophomores Chihiro Kato and Jessica Han (6-0, 6-1, 6-0) each swept their Pasadena counterparts.
The Bulldogs previously edged host Hoover High in Glendale in a league match, 10-8.
The No. 1 doubles team of Khobramasihi and Zeytounzian (6-2, 6-1, 6-1), and the No. 2 tandem of Petrosyan and Foenander (6-4, 6-3, 6-2) each swept, while the No. 3 duo of Kato and Han collected a pair of victories, 6-2, 6-3.
No. 1 singles Hammel registered a pair of victories, 6-1, 6-0, while No. 2 singles Hovhanasyan had one set win, 6-2.
Burbank will host Glendale in a league matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 3:30 p.m.

BURROUGHS
The Bears were edged by visiting Hoover High of Glendale on Tuesday after tying the Pacific League match, 9-9, but losing in total games, 91-82. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.
JBHS will host Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta in a league matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 3:30 p.m.
