Burbank’s Sapyta Competes in CIF Finals

Burbank High School tied with Alta Loma High of Rancho Cucamonga, Ayala High of Chino Hills, San Jacinto, Trabuco Hills High of Mission Viejo, Santa Monica and Beckman High of Irvine for 34th overall with three points in the CIFSS Division I boys’ track and field events at Moorpark High School last Saturday.

Senior Jack Sapyta placed seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 22.10 seconds and also placed eighth in the 400 meters with a 50.13 time.

PROVIDENCE

The Providence boys’ team placed 13th in the CIF-SS Division IV track and field finals with 14 total points last Saturday.

Senior Xander Penaflor finished as the 3,200 meters runner-up with a 9:26.92 time, freshman Henry Virtue took fifth in the 800 meters with a 2:00.99 time, and junior Trevor Deane (4:39.73) finished seventh in the 1,600.

Meanwhile, the Providence girls’ team tied with Bishop Montgomery High of Torrance, Fillmore, St. Genevieve High of Panorama City, Pacifica Christian High of Orange County and Foothill Technology High of Ventura for 40th overall with one point in CIF-SS Division IV. Freshman Aubrey Eaton finished eighth in the 3,200 meters with a 12:12.79 time.
