Swimming and Diving: Chatalyan Secures Runner-Up Finish at CIF Finals

Burroughs and Burbank high schools were represented by standout individuals at the CIF Southern Section Swimming & Diving Championships at Mt. San Antonio College on May 4.  The Bears competed in the Division III championship, while the Bulldogs were in the Division IV finals.

BURROUGHS

In the girls’ Division III competitions, Abigail Chatalyan secured second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.80 seconds. In the 200 freestyle, Chatalyan finished ninth with a time of 1:59.87. Camilla Guillermo placed eighth in the 50 free event with a time of 25.60. She also took ninth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.62.

The 400 free relay team of Lauren Chaparro, Anastasia Zubkoff, Chatalyan and Guillermo finished ninth with a time of 3:54.23.

In the boys’ Division III competitions, Ryan Lee clinched fifth in the 100 free, posting a time of 46.47. He also placed seventh in the 50 free with a time of 21.48.

The 200 free relay team of Harrison Siegel, Liam Wamester, Ian Duffield and Lee finished 15th with a time of 1:32.77. Additionally, the 400 free relay team of Ranger Timman, Siegel, Duffield and Lee finished 17th with a time of 3:24.43.

BURBANK

In the girls’ Division IV competitions, Tiffany Gonzalez finished seventh in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke, posting times of 1:04.42 and 1:08.42, respectively.

In the 500 freestyle, Iliana Brio finished 12th with a time of 5:57.28, while in the 200-yard individual medley, she secured 15th with a time of 2:33.25.

The 200 medley relay team of Areni Aghajani, Cynthia Golbedaghians, Brio and Gonzalez finished 14th with a time of 2:09.90.

The three-day CIF State Swimming & Diving Championships began Thursday, May 9 and concluded Saturday, May 11 at the Clovis Olympic Swim Complex at Clovis West High School.

The diving finals were slated for May 9, while prelims and finals were scheduled for the following days. The Swimming and Paralympic Finals started Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
