Politics Is Not for Everyone

I never thought I’d ever admire corporate life. And then my husband and I volunteered to work on a politician’s campaign in March.

No one introduced us to anyone — not that there were many people there. No one showed us where the bathroom was. No one explained properly where to park, causing our car to be locked in overnight. We were put on the “Get Out the Vote” phone banks, and then we were told to use our own phones and laptops. There was a room with a closed door that no one told us about. That turned out to be filled with Porto’s pastries, Trader Joe’s treats, many drinks and even pizza — for us.

We lasted a monthlong week. Our candidate lost. What a surprise.
