Boys’ Tennis: Bulldogs Edge Bears in Games

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ tennis team defeated host Burroughs High in games, 9-9 (91-85), in a Pacific League match on March 12.

In singles action, Burbank’s No. 1 Raphael Lazaryev won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-2. No. 2 David Kerimyan (6-1) and No. 3 Dominic Aleman (7-6) each won a set. In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Blake Lewis and Vamsi Chintha (6-3, 7-5), and the No. 3 tandem of James Basco and David Petrosyan (6-3, 6-4) each won a pair of sets. Meanwhile, the No. 2 duo of Desmond McNeill and Harutyun Keklikyan added a 6-2 victory.

Burroughs’ No. 1 singles player Bernard Woods swept his competition with scores of 6-4, 6-4 and 7-6, while No. 2 Zachary Friedman and No. 3 Aditya Kiran each won a set with identical 7-5 scores. The No. 3 doubles team of Paul Vu and Jaden Chapman swept with scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 7-6, while the No. 2 tandem of Ari Pathak and Miles Howell added a 6-3 victory.

The Bulldogs (4-1 in league) will host Hoover High of Glendale for a league match on March 26 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Pasadena on March 28. The Bears (4-4 overall, 3-2 in league) will host Arcadia for a league match on March 26 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Hoover High on March 28.
