Burroughs, Burbank Softball Off to Winning Start

The Burroughs High School varsity softball team overwhelmed visiting Golden Valley 15-2 in its season opener on Feb. 13.

Senior Emerson Coblentz earned the win after striking out eight batters across 2 2/3 innings, while freshman Valentina Reyes pitched 2 1/3 perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts. Sophomore Karlee Earl went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, while senior Gizelle Rangsiyawong went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and two runs. Junior Chloe Centeno went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, while freshman Sophie Rangsiyawong went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Senior Phoebe Spangler finished with a triple, three RBIs and a run, while junior Alyssa Morales registered a double, two RBIs, two runs and a walk. Senior Eliza Torres recorded a double, two runs, an RBI and a walk, while senior Skylar Vanole produced a double, an RBI and a run. Sophomore Karisma Mendez tallied a hit and an RBI, while senior Alyssa Rosales and freshman Chloe Zavala each scored once.

The Bears (1-0 overall) will visit Valencia for a nonleague game on Feb. 20 at 3:15 p.m. before hosting La Cañada on Feb. 23.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs picked up a 3-2 season-opening victory at Providence High on Feb. 13 as Maddison Kellogg tossed a complete game with 14 strikeouts.

Kara Valencia went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Eliza Bowren went 2-for-4, and Charley Barnett recorded a hit and two RBIs.

Burbank (1-0 overall) will host Eagle Rock High of Los Angeles for a league game on Feb. 22 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Royal High of Simi Valley on Feb. 26.
