Bears, Bulldogs Secure Pair of League Victories

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ basketball team defeated host Glendale 49-39 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 9.

Junior Mariam Fahs produced 13 points with six rebounds, three steals and one assist, while sophomore Elizabeth Amoroso recorded 11 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Freshman Jessica Mena finished with eight points, two rebounds and two assists, while sophomore Anna Phillips tallied six points, two assists and one rebound. Senior Ashley Martin contributed seven rebounds, four points, four steals and three assists, while sophomore Valentina Morales recorded eight rebounds and four points. Freshman Claire Hackney chipped in two points and one assist, sophomore Gabriella Buendia scored one point, and sophomore Alyssa Pracha had one rebound.

The Bears secured a 67-37 league victory at Muir High in Pasadena on Jan. 4.

Fahs poured in 15 points with seven rebounds, four steals and three assists, while Mena registered 10 points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist. Hackney tallied eight points, two rebounds and one assist, Amoroso finished with seven points, seven assists, five rebounds and three assists, and Morales recorded six points, three rebounds, two steals, one block and one assist. Martin contributed five points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block, while Buendia chipped in five points and one steal. Pracha produced four points, two rebounds and two assists, while Phillips notched four rebounds, three points and one block. Junior Ella Anderson had two points, two rebounds and one steal, while freshman Polina Gorgeiz scored two points with two rebounds.

Burroughs (17-2 overall, 6-1 in league) will visit Arcadia for a league game on Jan. 16 at 6:45 p.m. before hosting Pasadena on Jan. 19.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs secured a pair of Pacific League home victories over Muir High of Pasadena, 47-42, and Hoover High of Glendale, 60-25. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader by the Burbank coaching staff.

The Bulldogs (7-13, 3-4) will host Glendale for a league game on Jan. 16 at 6:45 p.m. before hosting Arcadia on Jan. 19.
