Burroughs Off to Undefeated Start

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ basketball team remained unbeaten this season with a convincing 58-19 nonleague victory at Agoura on Nov. 28.

 The Bears have scored 50-plus points in each matchup during their six-game win streak while allowing over 40 points just once.

Junior Mariam Fahs recorded 12 points, four assists, three steals and one rebound, while senior Ashley Martin tallied nine points, eight rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. Sophomore Elizabeth Amoroso finished with eight points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal, while senior Mia Paz chipped in eight points, three rebounds and two assists. Freshman Claire Hackney registered six points, two rebounds and one steal, freshman Jessica Mena contributed five points, three rebounds and one steal, and junior Ella Anderson scored three points. Sophomore Anna Phillips produced three steals, three rebounds, two points and one block, while sophomore Alyssa Pracha collected four rebounds, three steals, two points and one assist. Freshman Polina Gorgeiz notched two points and two rebounds, while sophomore Gabriella Buendia had two steals, one point and one assist.

The Bears defeated Wiseburn- Da Vinci High of El Segundo 55-22 in a Redondo Union Tournament game on Nov. 25 as Fahs racked up 19 points, three rebounds and one steal.

Mena contributed 10 points, four steals and two rebounds, while Martin finished with eight points, three rebounds and one assist. Hackney tallied six points, three assists and two steals, while Amoroso registered seven rebounds, four steals, three points and three assists. Gorgeiz recorded four points and four rebounds, Buendia chipped in three points and one assist, and Pracha produced three assists, two points and two rebounds. Meanwhile, Paz had three rebounds.

The Bears posted a 58-39 victory over Serra High of Gardena in a tournament game on Nov. 22. Fahs contributed 18 points, three steals, three assists and two rebounds, while Amoroso racked up 11 points, five steals, four assists and three rebounds. Hackney chipped in seven points, one steal and one assist, Martin produced five points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists, and Mena finished with five points, two rebounds, one steal and one block. Sophomore Valentina Morales tallied five steals, four points, four rebounds, two blocks and one assist, Paz collected five rebounds and four points, and Pracha recorded six steals, two points, one rebound and one assist. Gorgeiz registered four rebounds, two points, one block and one assist, while Buendia had two rebounds, one steal and one assist.

Burroughs (6-0 overall) will open Pacific League action by hosting Glendale on Dec. 5 at 6:45 p.m. before hosting Arcadia on Dec. 8.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs have not played a game since competing in the Upland Tournament, ending with a loss against Saugus on Nov. 17. Burbank (1-2) will open Pacific League action at Muir High in Pasadena on Dec. 5 at 6:45 p.m. before visiting Glendale on Dec. 8.
