Bears Finish Hawaii Tournament Run Undefeated

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ basketball team traveled to Hawaii to compete in the King Kekaulike Tournament last week and finished undefeated.

The Bears ended tournament play with a 57-47 victory over King Kekaulike High of Pukalani, Hawaii on Nov. 18. Claire Hackney registered 20 points, while Ashley Martin racked up 14 points and nine rebounds

Burroughs defeated Kamehameha Maui High of Pukalani, Hawaii, 51-39, in a tournament game on Nov. 17. Mariam Fahs scored 12 points, while Valentina Morales recorded 14 rebounds.

The Bears defeated King Kekaulike High 60-39 in their regular season and tournament opener on Nov. 16. Morales tallied 15 rebounds and four points, Hackney and Fahs each scored eight points, and Jessica Mena finished with six points.

Burroughs (3-0 overall) will finish competing in the Redondo Union Tournament on Nov. 25 before opening Pacific League action against visiting Glendale on Dec. 5 at 6:45 p.m.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs opened the regular season by competing in the Upland Tournament. Burbank suffered a pair of losses against Saugus, 64-33, and Grossmont High of El Cajon, 74-53, but won its season opener over Santa Clara High of Oxnard, 56-19. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

The Bulldogs (1-2 overall) will open Pacific League action at Muir High in Pasadena on Dec. 5.
