Bears Fall in Playoff Opener, Top Rival in Season Finale

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ volleyball team opened their CIF Southern Section Division IV campaign with an away match against top-seeded West Ranch High of Santa Clarita on Oct. 19. The Wildcats swept the Bears 25-22, 25-20, 25-20.

Ahead of the playoff match, Burroughs concluded the regular season with a four-game victory over rival Burbank, 25-20, 16-25, 25-19, 25-22, in a Pacific League showdown on Oct. 12.

Bears senior Sadie Lomet racked up 10 aces and six kills, while sophomore Savana Lay contributed 17 assists. Senior Tawnie Ohrt tallied eight kills, while sophomore Sienna Lay recorded six kills.

Burbank’s Arpa Khechadoorian racked up 20 assists and two digs, while Olivia Romagnino contributed 18 digs and two kills. Astoria Torres tallied eight kills, two blocks and one dig, Allie Foenander recorded six digs, five kills, two blocks and two aces, and Ally Molloy finished with five kills, four digs and one block. Bee Barona produced five digs, four aces and one kill, Addy Ritner registered two digs, two blocks and one kill, and Grace O’Connor and Raquel Fox each had one dig.

The Bears finished the campaign fourth in league with an 8-6 record (14-16 overall). Meanwhile, the Bulldogs finished the season seventh in league with a 3-11 record (4-24 overall).
