Burbank Police Foundation Doubles Pavelka Scholarship

At a City Council meeting on April 25, the Burbank Police Foundation awarded its annual Matthew Pavelka Scholarship to five high school student recipients, doubling its award from $2,000 per student to $4,000 per student this year. Each student will also receive an additional contribution after each year of college. The scholarship program, which was established in honor of officer Matthew Pavelka, who was killed in the line of duty on Nov. 15, 2003, provides an award for high school seniors “who have demonstrated outstanding effort in pursuit of a vocational goal,” the BPF said in a statement.
