Baseball: Bulldogs, Bears Crush Nonleague Opponents

The Burbank High School varsity baseball team routed visiting Mark Keppel High of Alhambra, 11-1, in a nonleague game on Monday as Colby Bette tossed five scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts while allowing two hits and one walk to earn the win.
Miklo Reynoso went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, two stolen bases, a walk and a run, Bryant Johnson went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, and Jake Reyes went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs. Danny Edwards, who had a hit, a run and a walk at the plate, pitched a perfect inning of relief with a strikeout, Danny Betancourt registered a hit, two stolen bases and a run, and Robert Snyder tallied a hit, an RBI, a stolen base and a run. Dylan Wierbilis recorded a hit and a walk while Kainan Koury had a hit.
Joe Maslyk walked once, scored a run and stole a base, Ben Castillo walked once, produced an RBI and stole a base, and Jimmy Cafferty walked once and scored. Ryan Sebastion finished with an RBI and a run, Julian Gonzalez walked once and Ethan Lara reached on a hit-by-pitch.
The Bulldogs (3-0 overall) will open Pacific League action at Muir High in Pasadena on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 3:30 p.m.

BURROUGHS


The Bears routed visiting Eastside High of Lancaster, 10-0, in a nonleague game on Wednesday.
JBHS recently lost to San Marcos High of Santa Barbara, 6-2, but beat Cleveland High in Reseda, 5-4, in a pair of Easton Tournament games. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.
The Bears lost an extra-inning tournament game to visiting La Cañada, 3-1. Kenny Montgomery, who recorded a hit, a walk, a stolen base and an RBI at the plate, struck out four over 4.2 innings. Mason Mahay finished with a hit, a run and a stolen base while Nate Chapman, Steven Suarez and Tommy Vournas each had a base hit. Sebastian Zamora struck out three across two innings while Zack Freck struck out a pair of batters in 1.1 innings. Christian Perez walked once and stole a base while Roberto Castenada walked once.
Burroughs (2-4 overall) will host Hoover High of Glendale in its Pacific League opener on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 3:30 p.m.
