Boys’ Tennis: Bulldogs, Bears Turn Focus to Rivalry Showdown

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ tennis team overwhelmed visiting Glendale with a 17-1 Pacific League victory on March 5.

The Bulldogs received singles sweeps from No. 1 Raphael Lazaryev (6-0, 6-0, 6-2) and No. 3 Dominic Aleman (6-0, 6-0, 7-5), while No. 2 David Kerimyan won a pair of sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-4.

The No. 2 doubles team of Desmond McNeill and Harutyun Keklikyan (6-0, 6-0, 6-1) and the No. 3 tandem of Vamsi Chintha and Blake Lewis (6-0, 6-1, 7-5) each swept their doubles opponents. Meanwhile, the No. 1 duo of James Basco and Ashot Aramyan won a pair of sets with scores of 6-0 and 7-5. Aramyan alternated with David Petrosyan, and the new pairing added a 6-1 victory to complete the sweep.

The Bulldogs (3-1 in league) will visit Burroughs High for a league match on March 12 at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Arcadia on March 14.

BURROUGHS

The Bears edged visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta 10-8 in a Pacific League match on March 5.

No. 1 Bernard Woods swept with scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-3. No. 2 Aditya Kiran swept with scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2. No. 3 Zachary Barry also swept with scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-4. Meanwhile, the No. 1 doubles team of Miles Howell and Ari Pathak added a crucial 6-4 victory.

Burroughs picked up a 16-2 league victory at Glendale on Feb. 29.

The No. 1 doubles team of Howell and Pathak swept with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2. The No. 2 tandem of Jaden Chapman and Iulian Lundberg swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2. The No. 3 duo of Bevan Maxwell and Joshua Liwag swept with scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 7-6 (7-4).

No. 1 Woods swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-3, while No. 3 Kiran (6-0, 6-0) and No. 2 Barry (6-1, 6-4) each won a pair of sets.

Burroughs (3-1 in league, 4-3 overall) will host Burbank for a league match on March 12 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Pasadena on March 14.
