Burroughs Falls in Penalty Shootout of CIF Opener

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ soccer team tied visiting Channel Islands High of Oxnard in regulation, 1-1, but ultimately lost, 4-1, in penalty kicks in its CIF Southern Section Division V wildcard match on Feb. 6.

Sophomore Samantha Sizemore chipped in one goal, while senior Jailyn Turner was credited with an assist.

Burroughs shut out visiting Burbank 3-0 in its regular season and Pacific League finale on Feb. 1.

Turner scored a pair of goals, junior Quiana Laughlin finished with one goal and one assist, and senior Graciela Gomez had one assist. Meanwhile, Burbank goalie Sydney Evens-Armendaris racked up 16 saves.

The Bears finished the campaign third in league with a 9-5 record (9-8 overall), while the Bulldogs were fifth with a 6-7-1 record (7-7-2 overall).
