Hackney Sparks Bears in Nonleague Win

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ basketball team defeated host Simi Valley High 57-40 in a nonleague game on Dec. 20.

Freshman Claire Hackney racked up 20 points, two steals, two assists, one block and one rebound, while sophomore Elizabeth Amoroso registered 13 points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists. Junior Mariam Fahs tallied nine points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals, sophomore Valentina Morales finished with six rebounds, five points, two blocks and one assist, and senior Ashley Martin contributed six steals, six rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Gabriella Buendia chipped in three points and two rebounds, while sophomore Alyssa Pracha recorded three steals, two points, one rebound and one assist. Freshman Jessica Mena produced two points, two rebounds and one steal, freshman Polina Gorgeiz had two points and one rebound, and junior Ella Anderson was credited with three rebounds, two steals and one assist.

The Bears lost to visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta 68-38 in a Pacific League game on Dec. 15.

Martin registered 11 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, two steals and one assist, sophomore Anna Phillips tallied nine points, two steals, two assists, one block and one rebound, and Fahs contributed eight points, six steals, three rebounds and two assists. Hackney produced five points, three assists and one steal, Pracha chipped in three points and two rebounds, and Morales recorded 15 rebounds and two points. Mena finished with three steals and two rebounds, Amoroso had one steal, one assist and one rebound, and senior Mia Paz and Buendia each had one rebound.

Burroughs (10-1 overall, 3-1 in league) will visit Muir High in Pasadena for a league game on Jan. 4 at 5:15 p.m. before visiting Glendale on Jan. 9.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs lost to visiting Pasadena 59-32 in a Pacific League game on Dec. 15. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burbank (3-9, 1-3) will host Hoover High of Glendale for a league game on Jan. 4 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Muir High of Pasadena on Jan. 9.
