Bulldogs, Bears Battle at Chino Hills Tournament

The Burbank High School varsity girls’ water polo team competed in the Chino Hills Tournament last week and finished with a 2-2 record.

The Bulldogs secured a 10-2 victory over Patriot High of Jurupa Valley in their tournament opener on Dec. 15.

Angela Khachikyan registered 11 saves, while Elizabeth Bislamyan tallied five goals and one assist. Melanie Hayrapetian finished with two goals, two steals and one assist, while Natalie Bislamyan contributed six steals and one goal. Kristina Khamtrashyan recorded two steals, two assists and one goal, Elina Khechumyan was credited with two assists and one goal, and Audrey Ebrahimi had one steal.

Burbank posted a 10-4 victory over Walnut in a tournament game on Dec. 15, as Khachikyan racked up 14 saves.

Elizabeth Bislamyan contributed four goals and one steal, while Hayrapetian chipped in two goals and one steal. Natalie Bislamyan produced four assists, two steals and one goal, while Khechumyan recorded one goal, one steal and one assist. Khamtrashyan was credited with two assists, while Khloe Aghakhani and Ebrahimi each finished with one assist.

The Bulldogs lost to Sonora High of La Habra 13-5 in their tournament finale on Dec. 16.

Elizabeth Bislamyan tallied three goals and one steal, while Natalie Bislamyan registered one goal, one steal and one assist. Khachikyan made six saves, Ebrahimi recorded two steals, and Khamtrashyan finished with one steal and one assist.

Burbank opened the second day of tournament play with a 16-5 loss against Los Altos High of Hacienda Heights on Dec. 16. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

The Bulldogs (3-6 overall) will visit Pasadena for a Pacific League game on Jan. 4 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Muir High in Pasadena on Jan. 9.

BURROUGHS

The Bears competed in the Chino Hills Tournament last week and finished with a 1-3 record.

Burroughs narrowly lost to Chino Hills 11-10 in their tournament finale on Dec. 16.

Ava Tomlin registered four goals and three steals, while Ana Zubkoff tallied three assists, two goals and one steal. Derrika Berenguer finished with two blocks, one goal and one assist, while Lauren Chaparro chipped in one goal and one assist. Siahni Suraez recorded one goal and one steal, while Bonnie Kretzmann and Sarah Metry each scored one goal. Molly Gilmore produced eight saves, Bella Matossian and Diana Gracia each contributed three steals, and Audrey Willett was credited with one steal and one assist.

Burroughs lost to Glendora 10-4 in their tournament opener on Dec. 15.

Tomlin tallied two goals, two blocks and one steal, while Olivia Dominguez and Berenguer each scored one goal. Gilmore recorded nine saves, while Zubkoff finished with three steals. Matossian contributed two steals, Kretzmann registered one steal and one assist, and Willett, Gracia and Suraez each had one steal.

The Bears secured a 13-5 victory over Birmingham High of Lake Balboa on Dec. 15 before losing to La Habra, 14-8, in a pair of tournament games on Dec. 15 and 16. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burroughs (3-6 overall) will host Hoover High of Glendale for a Pacific League game on Jan. 4 at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Glendale on Jan. 9.
