Burbank Edges Crescenta Valley to Win League Title

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ water polo team defeated Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta 6-5 in the Pacific League Tournament championship game on Oct. 26.

Senior Alec Chalkdzhyan racked up 12 saves and one steal, while junior Daniel Agazaryan finished with three goals, two steals and two assists. Senior Andranik Bilbulyan recorded two goals, two steals and one assist, while senior Hayk Atanasyan tallied two steals and one goal. Senior Alex Kobalyan registered one steal and one assist, while junior Avet Avetisyan had one steal.

The Bulldogs defeated Arcadia 10-6 in the tournament semifinal on Oct. 24.

Bilbulyan recorded five steals, four goals and two assists, sophomore Jack Babelyan finished with two goals, two steals and one assist, and Avetisyan tallied two goals and one steal. Agazaryan produced two steals, two assists and one goal, while freshman Avvo Ilangesyan contributed three steals, one goal and one assist. Chalkdzhyan chipped in six saves and two steals, Atanasyan registered five steals and one assist, and Kobalyan had two steals and one assist.

Burbank routed Glendale 13-2 in a prelim game on Oct. 24. Agazaryan racked up seven goals, Avetisyan chipped in three goals, and Bilbulyan, Babelyan and Atanasyan each scored one goal.

The Bulldogs finished the regular season as league champions with an 8-3 record (20-11 overall). The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Oct. 28 at 9 a.m.

The Bears lost to Arcadia 15-7 in their Pacific League Tournament third-place match on Oct. 26. Nicola Nasev scored four goals, Harrison Siegel recorded two goals and Tyler Jones had one goal.

Burroughs lost to Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta 11-3 in the tournament semifinal on Oct. 24. Nasev scored two goals, while Siegel registered one goal.

Burroughs finished the regular season fourth in league with a 6-3 record (14-15 overall). The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Oct. 28 at 9 a.m.
